Cannes Drive-In
This is the most ambitious AI project I have worked on to date.
Google approached us with the task of designing the best attraction on the Croisette for the yearly Cannes Lions. We were given almost free reign to design an interactive installation built on Google’s video generation capabilities.
Our concept was to create an homage to classic drive-in movie theaters, the twist being that the users are the stars of the films.
As Senior Director of Technology & AI, it was my role to design and execute the realtime generative film pipeline that allowed users to upload a photo of themselves, and be instantly generated into one of three short films.
Technology
The video generation was done using a mixture of pre-generated and realtime generated video assets. All video assets where generated by Google Omni.
Each video was made up of a template, composed of pre-generated input videos and prompts. Considerable effort and iteration were involved to creating the perfect input videos using Omni.
Once the user takes a photo at the kiosk, the application does a video to video replacement generation, substituting the user’s face for the input character’s face.
Once all the user generated shots where completed, all shots (realtime and pre-generated) where concatenated into the final output video.

Human in the loop system
A realtime HIL system was designed to make sure every video achieved Google’s Quality and Safety standards.

Along with the videos, bespoke animated video posters for each user were generated.
